About SHS S2-E19: “Planet Hulk!”

My storyboards for The Super Hero Squad Show were created in Storyboard Pro and submitted to the production in their preferred format of printable three-panel 8 1/2” X 14” pages. In that form, camera movement and effects were either charted or notated. Moments that could be conveyed with layer transforms in the file had to be either broken down into separate panels or have the action indicated with arrows. For the purposes of this animatic presentation, I have gone back to the original SBPro file, timed the action to the dialogue track and restored the camera work and layer transforms.
The popular “Planet Hulk” storyline originally appeared in the Incredible Hulk comic series by Greg Pak, Carlo Pagulayan and Aaron Lopresti. In addition to this episode of The Super Hero Squad Show, it has been adapted as a direct-to-video animated feature and served as the basis for much of Taika Waititi’s 2017 feature film “Thor: Ragnarok”.
Speaking of “Thor: Ragnarok”, I experienced a definite rush when this shot appeared in the film’s trailer. Not that I think that Taika Waititi cribbed it from (or even necessarily saw) our version. It’s just the confirmation that there’s something about the big green galoot that makes you want to have him run right at the camera!
